A Sept. 28 poll from Quinnipiac gave Blumenthal a 3 percentage point lead.
Poll director Douglas Schwartz says Blumenthal has stopped McMahon's momentum in the race to fill the seat now held by U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd.
He says Blumenthal's surge is fueled by support from women, Democrats and independent voters.
The telephone poll of 1,119 likely voters has a sampling margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
